For the past 7 or so months, Ive been slowly converting a portion of my apartment into a show space. Ironically, I used to operate a different artist-run gallery inside my last apartment here in town. That space lasted exactly 5 years and really bore the mark of youthful ambition. Since that ended, a few years ago, Ive been exhibiting around town quite a bit and mostly at spaces of the alternative variety. I guess I prefer those types of spaces, although I sorta wish I didn't have to make objects at all. I can almost imagine a futuristic sociality where all my friends, past, present and future, collaborate on the type of cultural work I try to address in my current practice (although that changes every day). I'll send out some emails. Lots of friends have moved elsewhere, some never even lived here to begin with. But I'm trying to get everyone to move back, even if only spiritually. After all, rent is so cheap in Cincinnati! It seems almost irresponsible to NOT operate your own creative-type space. This new thing Im doing though, in my place now? I wouldnt call it a gallery; its just my house. And Im way younger than I used to be.
